"No power in the 'verse can stop me."

I love Firefly. A lot. And not love as in "I really love cake" love. I mean if Firefly were a woman I would jump her bones on sight, marry her in a day and spend my entire life snuggling up with her.

Yes, I am in fact slightly creepy.

Still, this doesn't change the fact that Firefly was one of the greatest TV shows ever made, and I can watch any of its 14 episodes any time and bask in its aura of pure, filtered awesome.

Let me set the show up for all you non-Browncoats: combine Star Wars and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, sprinkle in a bit of Chinese, throw it all in a blender and set to badass and voila! Staring a bunch of people you've probably never heard of, it is the story of the captain of a ship called Serenity that flies around the 'verse doing cowboy things like smuggling or train jobs all set against the backdrop of a culture that is a combo of American Post-Civil War Western and Far East Orientalism, complete with the characters swearing in Mandarin. The writing is pure brilliance, segwaying perfectly from thrilling to dramatic to downright hilarious without missing a single beat; this is all thanks to its creator, the great Joss Whedon. If you ever watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the tv show, not the godawful movie), Angel, or seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog (and if you haven't, then do so right fucking now. I can wait.) you are aware of how good a writer he is. He also has a new show on Fox called Dollhouse, which you also check out as its really good.

So yeah, you should all watch Firefly. All 14 episodes are free to watch on Hulu (one of the best sites ever) right here, and there's also a full length theatrical movie, aptly titled Serenity, that came out a couple years ago that finishes off the series, so you better watch it when your done.

This has been a public service announcement to better your life and make you more awesome.

Fighting a Never Ending Battle

How do they do it? How do people conquer apathy? I sit at my computer doing random act after random act, from refreshing pages I've seen countless times today to re-watching Firefly episodes and wishing I was a space cowboy. I have two papers to write for class. I understand that I have to do them or suffer consequences I do not want to suffer. At this point I don't think I care. I can bullshit and goof-off till deadline, and I wouldn't care. I'd surely experience the Panic that I've spoken about before, but with a fresh dose of Apathy it is no threat.

I don't want responsibility. In fact I hate it. I either panic at the prospect or run away from it. The times of my life I love most is when I'm drifting through the day, not accomplishing anything but also not experiencing any of the hardships that life brings. I feel horrible for saying that though, because my life's hardships, while major to me, are minuscule compared to countless others, but once again I don't care.

I'm writing this in my prison of a dorm, Songs of a New World playing in the background, instead of fulfilling my responsibilities. Eventually I give up on all of them, including this blog, which I haven't written on in over a month. Words are failing me right now; I can't possibly articulate what goes on in my head no matter how hard I try. Then again how hard am I really trying?

One of the many things I did today was read a Superman comic. I like to think that heroes are my role models: Superman. Spider-Man, Green Lantern, etc. I like to think that I work towards the ideals they represent as an example, to be more like them. How bullshit am I? These three superheroes are personifications of willpower, responsibility, and perfection. I am the antithesis of all of them.

I can't do anything anymore. Apathy has won.

New blog announcement!

Good news everyone! My supplemental blog to this one is finished, and the first post is online. I had gotten some feedback saying that people were tired of all the movie posts on Radio Free Florida, and since it is impossible for me to not write about movies, I've created H.M.D.B., a new blog designed only for movies. It's gonna be pretty awesome, and I've just finished its first review, Watchmen.

But don't worry, I'm going to be writing consistently on Radio Free Florida and H.M.D.B., so there will be something for everyone.

High School has spoiled me

That is one sentence I thought I would never utter, but there it is. High school was to fucking easy. Over the past week I have been studying my ass off, completely stressed out over two exams, one of which was no big deal to study for. The other one is now controlling my entire life and I hate what I'm turning into. The class in question is Politics of Russia, which for many the title alone would have been enough of a red flag to stay the fuck away, but at the time I registered for it I was a Political Science major and it was the only class left (fucking upperclassmen taking all the good classes), so I picked it up. Little did I know that I would have to pour over numerous long and dense articles on the electoral trends of the 1995 elections and its market reforms and blah blah hellish nightmare.

Now it is exam time, and this class is proving to me why it was a good idea to get out of dodge and change my major to Journalism, but that is besides the point. You may be asking yourself, "Andrew you foolish fool! Why would you even pick Poly Science as a major in the first place?" A valid question, and the answer lies back in high school. I took several Poly Sci courses in high school, and the subject matter came easily to me then and I sincerely enjoyed learning the material. In hindsight, it was probably because of the teacher I had that made it so enjoyable and easy (I love ya Dr. Marini, but as of now I will never forgive you).

So that leaves me here, panicking and wound up tighter than a nun's asshole. I was never like this; I used to be Andrew Wyzan, Destroyer of Tests. I would be relaxed and understanding that it was only a test and therefore nothing to be afraid of, then when the tests came I made each and everyone of them my personal bitch and walk away with more Aces than World War I. I hate being the way I am now, and I blame high school to being too easy, and college for encouraging this behavior in it's students.

To all of you panic-stricken students, I now feel your pain.

Gone, but (hopefully) not forgotten

So, um, hi all. Did any of you miss me? Didn't think so. Sorry I have not posted in god knows how long, I caught a bad case of laziness and, surprisingly, busyness (but mostly laziness). You've all unfortunately read about Matt's sabbatical from the blog, and I hope you all wish him good luck in his ventures like I have and will do time and again. The main side effect of his departure is that now I am your sole source of entertainment on this blog, and I deeply apologize for such an agonizing fate.

But don't fret! I have plans for the future of this blog, with a couple projects in the woodwork waiting to be unleashed on the masses *coughmovieblogcough* and hopefully numerous posts that will appeal to all (or at least the cool people). This post is just to check in and touch base with all of you, so please don't anything substantial this week as I have three exams and those textbooks won't read themselves no matter how much I fucking want them to.

So have a good week all. I'll be letting you guys know when shits going down.

Sabbatical

This is what i am doing and what i will be doing for a while. I think my Sabbatical will end some time around my 19th birthday. nothing is definite. all the unanswered questions will remain unanswered until, well, they are answered. so i guess i just have to wait and let the river take me wherever it goes, sounds simple but its fairly difficult. All in all, i have changed a lot and have seen myself from a different perspective and really have changed my normal routine. Almost to the point where, "you wouldn't even recognize the man i am now," to quote Jeff Buckley. It's all positive, it's all growth, it's all change.

I miss certain people who were in my life. I hope, the select few of my friends who i really care about and i know they care about me, will still be there when i am done with my Sabbatical.

I am going to keep changing for the rest of my life, i will not revert back to my old ways I PROMISE YOU THIS. some people, old friends, may hate that and despise me for it. Sorry. That's Life, that's how it goes. People Change.

So to those people, "in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!"
